WHAT IS GALVANIZED PLUMBING?

Galvanized iron pipes are steel pipes covered with a protective layer of zinc. Galvanized pipes were installed in many homes built before the 1960s. Over many years, zinc erodes from galvanized pipes, exposing the steel. The steel then starts to rust or corrode.

HOW TO IDENTIFY GALVANIZED PIPING

Find where your piping enters your home and scratch it. If the piping is galvanized steel, the scratched area will be a silver-gray color and have threads on each end.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE GALVANIZED PLUMBING?

Houston area residents should consider replacing their homes' plumbing if it has corroded (galvanized) plumbing and has or had a lead service line. We Do Repipes can send a professional to help you determine if your pipes need to be replaced.  If replacing your pipes is not an immediate option, it is recommended you install an NSF certified filter that removes lead at the tap, or a pitcher filter are also acceptable alternatives.  Call today, 832-819-8337.

What to expect with a whole house PEX repipe?

Repiping can eliminate many home plumbing problems. Galvanized pipe corrosion, rusting pipes, pipe leaks, rusty water, brown water, and low water pressure are all signs your home may need a repipe.

We perform repipes or pipe replacement to avoid costly damage to your home. If you need to replace galvanized pipes, we recommend PEX (cross-linked polyethylene pipe) for your repipe.  PEX installation is the quickest and cleanest method for repiping. We only use high-quality Uponor PEX to repipe. Call today for a no-obligation quote 832-819-8337.

WHAT IS A REPIPE

Repiping is a process of installing a water supply system. This process usually includes removing the old readily accessible pipe and then installing the new plumbing system. Included in the process is the installation of new Uponor PEX water supply lines. After the new piping system is fitted, the water is turned back on, and the plumbing is pressure tested and then flushed out. The repiping process takes 1-3 days to install the new piping system. After the actual plumbing replacement, there will be some required wall patching.

A professional site inspection is critical to a successful repiping process. Standard repiping projects include the installation of all-new hot and cold domestic water piping from the water source to all existing faucets and fixtures. Unless specifically included in the proposal, drain replacement and fixtures are not typically included in a repipe. Call today for a no-obligation quote 832-819-8337.

ADVANTAGES OF PEX

PEX plumbing systems are installed more often in new home construction than copper and CPVC systems combined. PEX is being installed more often because it is more durable, more reliable, and a cleaner option for a home's plumbing system. PEX-a is the most flexible of all PEX types.

Its shape and thermal memory allow the use of ProPEX expansion fittings, which are the only fitting system that gets stronger over time – making it highly leak resistant.

PEX is the more affordable and contemporary option for repiping. Uponor's pex is a lead-free plumbing system from inlet to faucet, providing you and your family a safe, clean, and healthy system for transporting water. Call today for a no-obligation quote 832-819-8337.

Should I Repipe My Houston Home?

There are several reasons for replacing your home's plumbing or repiping. Leaks may not demand a total repipe, but this becomes an essential consideration if leaks are present with other factors like an aging system and/or inferior pipe materials.

Aged and worn pipes in your home's plumbing system can contaminate your water supply with debris from their corroded interiors, while also introducing water into the walls and floors of your home. Depending on the extent of wear your plumbing system has suffered, it may be more viable to replace your home's entire pipe system than to repair sections as they fail.

Our experts at We Do Repipes can provide you with a thorough analysis of your home's plumbing system and help you decide whether you would be better served with a repair or a whole house repipe. When it comes to reliable and affordable repipe specialists in and around Houston, We Do Repipes is the answer. Call us today, 832-819-8337.
